Treat type-2 diabetes at home: Dr Michael Mosley shares diet to reverse high blood sugar within weeks
Type-2 diabetes is a chronic condition characterised by spiking blood sugar levels. The lifestyle disorder is chronic and it has no cure, but doctors say that diet is the most important factor for its management and even control.
And now, UK-based doctor and author Dr Michael Mosley claimed that there is one diet routine that can reverse type-2 diabetes within only 12 weeks. On the Fast 800 website by Dr Michael Mosley, the 5:2 diet was shared and it was noted that the routine offers the same health benefits as continuous calorie restriction.
What is the 5:2 diet?
Dr Mosley revealed that the diet routine involves fasting for two days in a week and the 5:2 diet is also a flexible and simple approach to intermittent fasting. The diet plan requires one to eat normally for five days in a week and then restrict the calorie intake for the remaining two days. It also involves eating 800 calories two days a week, which are known as fasting days, and following a balanced diet without calorie counting for the other five days.
On the non-fasting days, Dr Mosley recommends following sensible portion control and eating Mediterranean-style meals, junk food, and ultra-processed food would negate the health benefits. On fasting days, people are advised to choose three or two small meals or two large meals that prioritise fibre, proteins, and healthy fats. By doing this, the body enters a state of ketosis wherein it switches to burning fats for fuel rather than glucose from carbs.
