Moscow: The Ukrainian military has destroyed the most advanced missile defense system of Russia, the S-400, giving a major blow to Vladimir Putin. This is the first time that Russia has also acknowledged Ukraine’s success, which is very rare. The Ukrainian forces used ATACMS missiles provided by the United States for this attack, known for their long-range destructive capabilities.
In its statement, Russia confirmed that the Ukrainian strike in the Kursk region damaged an air defense system and an airbase. Russia has threatened a strong retaliation for this attack. Earlier, Ukraine had claimed to have carried out a successful strike in Russian territory.
The recent attack by the Ukrainian military has exposed the vulnerabilities of Russia’s defense system at a time when Russia claims its S-400 missile defense system to be invincible. Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have escalated since the U.S. approved Kyiv’s use of these long-range missiles. In response, Russia is now deploying North Korean soldiers.
Additionally, Russia has shocked the world by using the Oreshonic missile for the first time—a missile it recently claimed to have developed.
Ukrainian Missile Destroys S-400
It has been reported that on Monday, Ukraine targeted an S-400 missile system in the Lotarevka area, northwest of Kursk. This is being described as a significant move. The S-400 holds the same strategic importance for Russia as the Patriot missile defense system does for the United States.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that out of five American missiles, three were intercepted, but two managed to hit the airbase. This caused significant damage to the radar system of the S-400 and resulted in casualties among soldiers.
In response, Russia launched 188 combat drones on Ukraine overnight, marking the largest drone assault by Russia since the conflict began between the two nations.
