Uttar Pradesh: Sultanpur doctor held on rape charges, sent to judicial custody
A doctor in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district has been arrested on charges of raping a 22-year-old woman over the past two years.
The 38-year-old doctor had allegedly promised to marry her. As per the police on Wednesday, the doctor was nabbed after the woman was rescued after a suicide attempt.
Charges of rape have been filed against Dr Azad Khan. The police also produced him before the court, which sent him to judicial custody, a report by ‘The Indian Express’ said. The woman is pursuing her graduation degree from Lucknow.
Locals saw her jumping in the Gomti River
Sharing details, the police said that some locals saw her jumping in the Gomti River. After this, a few divers jumped into the river and saved her. Soon, after the police too reached the spot and took her to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
During the questioning by the police, the woman informed that she had been sexually harassed by the doctor for the last two years, who subsequently refused to marry her. The police then interrogated Khan and arrested him, after he failed to provide satisfactory answers.
Earlier in December, three men were arrested for allegedly raping a girl outside a hospital in Lucknow. As per reports, the victim was undergoing treatment at Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University (KGMU) for an illness for a few days when the incident took place.
The police said that one of the accused was identified as Satyam. The accused used to run a tea stall outside the hospital. According to the, the victim and Satyam came to know each other after several meetings over tea.
