Uttar Pradesh: Three journalists, two police officers booked for running honey-trap gang in Bareilly
At least five men, including three journalists and two police officers, and a woman were booked for operating a honey-trap gang in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly.
The case was filed on the basis of a complaint filed by a businessman, who was threatened and blackmailed by the gang.
Businessman trapped by gang
“The woman first went to meet the businessman at a hotel in Bareilly. After she left, three journalists and a police constable entered and took the businessman to the police station. At the police station, a senior officer threatened and blackmailed the businessman with false rape and POCSO Act charges. The businessman was then asked to pay Rs 2.5 lakh in a bid to resolve the matter. Adhering to the instructions given by the officer, the businessman paid the money,” a cop said.
Businessman narrates his ordeal to family
After returning from the police station, the businessman narrated the horror he faced to his family members. They later decided to file a police complaint against the people who were involved in duping the businessman.
The businessman and his family members met Bareilly SSP Sushil Chandrabhan Ghule and informed him about the incident. In his complaint, the businessman identified the accused as Naved Khan, Ghulam Sabir Azad, Chand Alvi, Sania, Kolendra Kumar and Saurabh Kumar. While Naved Khan, Ghulam Sabir Azad and Chand Alvi are the journalists, Kolendra Kumar is a constable and Saurabh Kumar is the Senior Inspector.
SSP Bareilly takes cognizance of businessman’s complaint
Taking cognizance of the incident, SSP Bareilly instructed the police officers to file an FIR into the matter. A case under Sections 386 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been filed and a probe launched. Both the police officers have been suspended.
