Videographer in Bihar shot dead at birthday party after his camera runs out of battery
In a tragic incident reported from Makhnaha village under the jurisdiction of Baheri police station in Darbhanga district late Wednesday night, a 22-year-old videographer Sushil Kumar Sahni was shot in the mouth.
Trouble started when Sushil, hired by a fellow villager named Rakesh Sahni to record his daughter’s birthday party, encountered a technical difficulty-his camera’s battery ran out of charge midway through the celebration.
The interruption apparently angered Rakesh, who verbally abused Sushil before opening fire. Subsequently, Rakesh and his companions rushed the injured videographer to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). They abandoned him at the hospital entrance and fled the scene, leaving Sushil in a critical condition. Despite the efforts of the hospital staff, Sushil succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The news spread rapidly, sparking anger and outrage among the villagers of Makhnaha. Demanding justice, they took to the streets, blocking traffic on Laheriasarai main road on Thursday morning. Their primary demand was the immediate arrest of Rakesh. The blockade continued for several hours, causing a significant disruption in traffic flow for approximately one kilometre on both sides of the road. The situation was eventually brought under control when Benipur SDPO Sumit Kumar intervened, assuring the aggrieved villagers of swift action.
