Volvo Accident Ahead Alert Feature: Redefining Safety Standards
Volvo Cars has announced its latest connected safety feature called the Accident Ahead Alert, which uses real-time data collected by a traffic management centre, allowing drivers to be notified about accidents ahead.
With the introduction of this feature, Volvo aims to help drivers avoid collisions and traffic congestion caused by accidents. Volvo cars in Europe will be the first to be equipped with this feature, starting in Denmark.
The Accident Ahead Alert feature works by using data sources from national road authorities, as well as other vehicles (initially other Volvos) to notify drivers up to a few hundred meters before a congestion point or traffic caused due to accidents.
Volvo Cars first introduced a feature which allowed their vehicles to communicate with each other in 2016. This feature allowed Volvo’s drivers to notify other Volvo drivers in case of a nearby hazard or slippery road conditions.
Volvo Cars is planning to increase partnering up with other national traffic management centres as well as other car manufacturers to improve safety standards in the automotive industry.
