Watch: Shubman Gill’s Furious Exchange With Umpire Over Controversial Decision in IPL Match
Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was seen fuming over the umpire’s call during the IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday. In the 17th over of the game, Gill was seen in a heated altercation with the umpire which went against his unit. Mohit Sharma’s delivery that was outside the wide tramline was initially signaled for extra by the on-field umpire. The Titans, who were unhappy with the call, opted for a review and the third umpire initially asked the on-field official to reverse his decision as Sanju Samson, the batsman at the crease, moved slightly on the stick before the ball was released.
However, on further inspection, the official asked the on-field umpire to stick to his original decision of wide. This enraged Gill, who got into an argument with the umpire. GT won the toss and elected to bowl first against unbeaten Rajasthan as the hosts got off to a steady start thanks to young opener Yashshwi Jaiswal. The southpaw dealt the boundary and managed to score 24 runs before falling prey to Umesh Yadav. GT’s Afghan spin wizard Rashid Khan managed to remove the dangerous Jos Buttler cheaply for 8 as the Englishman bowled one at slip.

RR were 42/2 in the sixth over when skipper Samson and youngster Ryan Parag came to steady the ship with their incredible 130-run partnership. Parag went for the big shots early on and managed to contribute a massive 76 runs to his side’s cause before being dismissed in the final over by Mohit Sharma. Skipper Samson remained unbeaten on 68 off just 38 balls and closed the innings alongside Shimron Hetmyer, who played a cameo including two boundaries that took RR to 196 in their quota of 20 overs.
