WhatsApp May Soon Allow International Payments Via UPI For Indian Users Through App; Details
WhatsApp has been working on a variety of new features and is now reportedly working on a new feature which will allow users to make international payments through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
The new feature dubbed ‘International Payments’ will allow users with Indian bank accounts to transfer money to some international merchants and complete the payments.
This feature will only be available in a few countries where international UPI services are provided. Users would be required to explicitly activate the feature and specify how long they want it to stay active, according to the tipster’s post on X. According to the reports, the term can be extended up to three months, as opposed to Google Pay’s seven-day transaction timeframe. Numerous UPI participants in India, such as PhonePe and Google Play, currently offer this service.
The feature has not been verified by the company, though. It is recommended that all readers take this update with a pinch of salt, as the feature is not accessible to the application’s beta testers. The instant messaging service owned by Meta will be able to arrange international transactions for all of its customers worldwide if the rumours are to be believed.
In November 2020, the instant messaging service became one of the first to enable UPI payments for users in India. According to the rumours, the functionality is being developed at the moment and might be made available to a limited number of beta testers. Please be aware that at the time this article was written, no user had access to this functionality. Information regarding the release schedule is lacking.
Meanwhile, the instant messaging platform is also working on a slew of features and is under the pipeline. The company is working on the QR code scanner which will help the users to make digital payments easier. The feature may roll out in the coming weeks.
