What is end-to-end encryption feature?
WhatsApp launched the end-to-end encryption feature in 2016. After 10 years, this feature has become a subject of debate between the government and WhatsApp. Actually, WhatsApp had launched this feature to maintain the privacy of the users, in which the message is sent in the form of a code and only the receiver can decode that message. According to WhatsApp, even WhatsApp cannot know the details of the message in the end-to-end encryption feature. With the end-to-end encryption feature, your photos, videos, voice messages, documents, status updates and calls all remain safe. Even WhatsApp itself cannot see this chat.
Why did the matter reach the court?
The Central Government has implemented new IT rules in the country in 2021, in which all social media platforms will have to keep information about messages, calls and other things safe and make them available on demand from the government. WhatsApp is opposing this rule of the government, it is arguing that if it follows this rule, then its end-to-end encryption feature will have no meaning. Also, WhatsApp says that it is a difficult task for it to keep everyone’s messages safe, because it will require huge resources.
