Woman, 2-year-old nephew bitten by pit bull in Gurgaon, police file FIR against dog owner
A pit bull attacked a 25-year-old woman named Arti Singh and her two-year-old nephew, Hridyansh, outside their house in Sector 5. Arti, who is pursuing a career as a government teacher after completing her BEd, was walking with her nephew when the unleashed dog, owned by a neighbour, lunged at them.
According to Arti’s brother, Naveen, the dog was not restrained and ran out of the neighbour’s house through an open main gate. As the dog attacked, Arti shielded the toddler, sustaining bites on her arms and legs in the process. Hridyansh only suffered scratches on his knees, as reported by Times of India.
Upon hearing Arti’s cries for help, Naveen and others rushed to the scene, managing to push the dog away. Both Arti and Hridyansh were immediately taken to a private hospital for treatment. Arti’s injuries were not severe, and after receiving necessary medical attention, she and the toddler were discharged.
Complaint filed against owner
The family filed a police complaint against the dog owner, a 20-year-old named Anuj. An FIR was registered against him under Section 289 (negligent conduct with respect to an animal) of the IPC at Sector 5 police station on Thursday. Anuj, originally from Rohtak, had been residing in Bhimgarh Kheri for the past few years. The police said that arrests are pending, pending the completion of a preliminary investigation.
Pitbull attacks woman
In a similar incident last year, a pitbull attacked woman named Riya Devi after a dispute over the dog’s frequent littering near her home in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar. The argument escalated when the owner, in a fit of anger, allowed the pitbull to attack Riya. She suffered severe bite wounds on her hands and legs. Ownership of pitbulls without proper permission is illegal, and the Swaroop Nagar police have filed an FIR based on CCTV footage. The incident has left Street Number 14 residents uneasy, with parents now hesitant to let their children play outdoors due to fear.
