Woman deals with painful period cramps, loses her womb after doctors discover the reason

A young woman was forced to get her womb removed after doctors dismissed her period pain for years. The 24-year-old was diagnosed with a tumour the size of a baby’s head on one of her ovaries.

For a long time, she had been complaining of tummy pain, back pain, and tiredness – and during a visit to the doctor, she was believed to be suffering from a urinary tract infection (UTI).

But scans of the uterus confirmed that it was a case of aggressive ovarian cancer which had spread to both the ovaries and eventually the stomach lining. Doctors decided that the best course of action in this case would be to perform a hysterectomy which involves removal of all reproductive organs. The operation ultimately left the patient without a uterus.

Now 26, the patient was plunged into menopause at a very early age. While doctors had successfully removed the uterus and ovaries, in the case of ovarian cancer, the risk of the disease returning is said to be very high.

Doctors say that there is an 80% chance of the disease coming back. After the treatment, the patient was given hormone-suppressing medication to reduce the odds of cancer relapsing. But unfortunately, she now struggles with menopausal symptoms such as:

  1. Low moods
  2. Bone pain
  3. Hair loss
  4. Weight gain
  5. Tiredness
