World Kidney Day is a global health awareness campaign observed annually on the second Thursday of March. The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health and reduce the impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.

In line with this year’s theme, “Kidney Health for All,” it’s crucial to highlight habits that can protect your kidneys and ensure kidney well-being.

World Kidney Day is an initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF), established to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health and the impact of kidney disease on individuals and communities.

The kidneys play a vital role in maintaining overall health by filtering waste and excess fluid from the blood, regulating blood pressure, producing red blood cells, and maintaining electrolyte balance. However, various factors such as poor lifestyle choices, chronic conditions, and genetic predisposition can affect kidney function and lead to kidney disease.

Lifestyle Changes That Will Protect Your Kidney

1. Stay Hydrated: Drinking an adequate amount of water helps maintain optimal kidney function by flushing out toxins and waste products from the body. Aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day, or more if you are physically active or live in a hot climate.
