Worst Global NCAP safety-rated cars in India: From Maruti Suzuki WagonR to Maruti Suzuki Swift

We have already informed you about the vehicles on sale in India with the highest safety ratings as per the crash tests conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Program or global ncap. But what about cars with the lowest safety ratings?

Global NCAP introduced new testing protocols in July 2022 to evaluate the safety standards of cars sold in India. Under the new protocols, offset deformable barrier frontal impact test, side impact test, pole side impact test and pedestrian protection test were introduced. Also, electronic stability control (ESC) became mandatory for vehicles scoring the highest star ratings.

As many as five Maruti Suzuki cars have fared poorly under Global NCAP’s new testing protocols with very low safety ratings.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

The Ignis garnered one star in the adult occupant protection category (16.48 points out of 34) and zero in the child occupant protection category (3.86 points out of 49) at Global NCAP. It is priced between Rs 5.84 lakh and Rs 8.25 lakh (Ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

The S-Presso also got a single star in the adult occupant protection category and zero in the child occupant protection category with 20.03 points in the former and 3.52 points in the latter. It comes in the price bracket of Rs 4.26 lakh to Rs 6.11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

You will be shocked to read this! We all know that the WagonR is one of the largest-selling cars in India. However, its safety ratings are dismal, to say the least. It garnered one star in the adult occupant protection category (19.69 points) and zero in the child occupant protection category (3.40 points). It sits in the price range of Rs 5.54 lakh to Rs 7.37 lakh (ex-showroom)
