WPL 2024: MI vs GGT Match Stopped for a Bizarre Reason in Delhi – Watch
The WPL 2024 match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants was stopped for some time for a bizarre reason on Saturday (March 9).
Around the 18th over of the Mumbai run chase, the match suddenly got halted for a few minutes.
As Mumbai Indians were chasing the target of 191 set by Gujarat Giants, the match was stopped at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After the 18th over, the sprinklers on one side of the ground suddenly opened up and forced an unscheduled break in the proceedings.
Water started to ooze out of the sprinklers and the players were awestruck by the visuals. The match was halted and after fixing the issue, a super sopper was brought on to soak the water spilled on the ground.
MI-W needed 23 runs off the last two overs when this happened, but it didn’t stop their momentum. MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur continued her onslaught and the defending champions chased the target down with a ball to spare.
Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on 95 off just 48 balls and steered her team home. With the victory, Mumbai have qualified for the playoffs while Gujarat Giants are mathematically still alive for the WPL 2024 playoffs.
