New Delhi: India’s star all-rounder who is an off-spinner in bowling style, Ravichandran Ashwin was the most valuable player in India’s win against Bangladesh in the First Test match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The veteran not only performed with the ball, but also was exceptional with the bat, smashing a fantastic ton.
Ravichandran Ashwin got the chance to bat in the first innings when Team India lost its top order and needed some toughness in the middle overs. Ashwin, a brilliant batter in sub-continent conditions scored a brilliant hundred and rescued India from a precarious situation.
Talking about the first innings Ravichandran Ashwin failed to pick up a single wicket with the ball in the first innings, but was back to his absolute best in Bangladesh’s second innings. The wily spinner grabbed a 5-wicket haul and finished with figures of 6 for 88 as India triumphed over Bangladesh with utmost ease.
Talking about the records, by picking up a 5-wicket-haul, Ashwin broke Aussie spinner, Nathan Lyon’s record of most 5-wicket hauls in the World Test Championship (WTC). In 43 WTC Tests, Lyon has ten 5-wicket hauls, and Ashwin now has 11 fifers in just 36 Test matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin completed his 37th five-wicket haul and equalled Australian legend Shane Warne for the record. It was also the fourth time the veteran all-rounder took five wickets or more in a Test match alongside a hundred.
The Indian cricket team scripted history in Chennai on a Sunday morning as they registered more wins than losses in Test cricket for the first time since 1932 following an emphatic 280-run victory over Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. With this victory, India now has 179 wins out of 580 Test matches. India lost 178 times while drew 222 matches and one game ended in a tie.
