WWE Legend Sid Vicious Dies At 63 After Long Battle With Cancer
New Delhi: The wrestling world is in mourning as Sidney Raymond Eudy, who was famously known as Sid Vicious, has passed away at the age of 63 after a long struggle with cancer. His son Gunnar Eudy broke the sad news through a touching Facebook post giving tribute to the wrestler legend. Sid Vicious was a huge name in either WWE or WCW, and with his great height, there came great dominance inside the ring. Contributions to the sport are indelible, and fans and wrestlers will always remember him.
Gunnar expressed his deep emotions in a heartfelt message that read, “In Memory of My Father, Sid Eudy. Dear friends and family, I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years. He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon. Thank you for your support.”
Sid Vicious stood out as one of professional wrestling’s most intimidating and captivating personalities. Towering at 6’9″, his imposing figure and fierce presence became a defining feature of his career. His breakthrough moment arrived in 1989 when he signed with WCW, taking on some of the industry’s top stars, such as The Steiner Brothers, The Road Warriors, and The Four Horsemen.
In 1991, Sid made his highly anticipated debut in WWE under the name Sid Justice. He wasted no time making an impression, serving as the Special Guest Referee at SummerSlam, where WWE Champion Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior teamed up against The Triangle of Terror in a thrilling 3-on-2 Handicap Match.
Sid returned to the WWE in 1995 after a short time away repackaged as “Sycho Sid.” He initially aligned himself with Shawn Michaels, serving as his bodyguard as Michaels challenged Diesel for the WWE Title at WrestleMania XI. That alliance quickly devolved into a hot-blooded rivalry when Sid managed to unseat Michaels for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series 1996. Sid’s dominance continued into the beginning of 1997 when he seized the WWE Title in a match against Bret Hart, further cementing his status as one of the most feared and exciting superstars the WWE has ever known.
However, aside from his WWE glory, Sid was a two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion. He fronted some of the most iconic wrestling shows in history, including WrestleMania VIII, WrestleMania XIII, and even the last WCW Starrcade back in 2000. His career went sour in 2001 following a gruesome leg injury in the ring while competing against Scott Steiner. Despite that, Sid sporadically appeared in the ring, his last match being in 2017.
Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW. His impact on this business was undeniable, and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time. #RIPSid pic.twitter.com/3fYWTAkHzO
