Yamaha RX100 Comeback Likely, May Hit Indian Market With New 225.9CC Engine; What We Know So Far
Yamaha RX100, an iconic name in the motorcycle segment, is poised to make a comeback in the Indian market after its discontinuation in 1996. According to a report by Livemint, the new revamped iteration of the RX100 will be reintroduced with some changes, including a different nameplate and a larger engine to meet the BS6 Phase 2 emission norms.
Yamaha RX100 – New Engine
In terms of engine specs, the new iteration of the Yamaha RX100 is anticipated to be equipped with a powerful 225.9 cc engine. This engine is capable of producing a power output of 20 bhp and 19.9 Nm of torque. This upgrade from the original 98.2 cc two-stroke engine is necessary to maintain the iconic motorcycle’s sound and power in a four-stroke model.
The Yamaha RX100 was renowned not just for its sleek and lightweight design but also for its distinctive sound and impressive power. To replicate these features in a four-stroke model, Yamaha needed to equip the motorcycle with an engine of at least 200 cc. In line with this, Yamaha is developing a new version of the RX100 that will be both high-performance and lightweight, featuring a larger engine. This marks a departure from the original 100 cc segment of the RX100, which was powered by a 98.2 cc two-stroke engine.
Yamaha RX100 – Expected Price
Despite the changes, the new Yamaha RX100 is expected to retain some signature styling elements from the original model. In terms of pricing, the upcoming RX100 is anticipated to be launched in India with its prices ranging between Rs 1.25 lakh and 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom). There has been no confirmation from Yamaha regarding these details, however, the anticipation among enthusiasts for the return of this iconic motorcycle is prominently visible.
