Yuvraj Singh denies media reports of him contesting Lok Sabha polls
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has denied media reports suggesting that he would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Gurdaspur in Punjab.
Yuvraj Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday to clarify his position. He said he had no intention to venture into politics and would continue helping people through his foundation You We Can.
“Contrary to media reports, I’m not contesting elections from Gurdaspur. My passion lies in supporting and helping people in various capacities, and I will continue to do so through my foundation You We Can. Let’s continue making a difference together to the best of our abilities,” Yuvraj Singh said in the post.
Reports floating in the media suggested that the World Cup winner would contest the Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket from Gurdaspur, replacing actor Sunny Deol who is the current Member of Parliament from the seat.
The reports emerged after Yuvraj Singh’s recent meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Yuvraj Singh is one of the biggest names in the history of Indian cricket. Yuvraj’s career is studded with numerous milestones that underscore his cricketing prowess.
Notably, his six consecutive sixes in a single over during the 2007 T20 World Cup and recording the fastest T20I fifty (at the time) in just 12 balls are feats that have etched his name in cricketing lore. His instrumental role in India’s 2011 ICC World Cup victory, where he was named the Man of the Tournament, further solidified his legacy.
